If you’ve done the rest of Beijing and am looking for something new to do, try Ganges Bollywood performances Thursday-Sunday. Better yet, bring your date. She will definitely get a kick out of it. At the request of my gf I’ve been back twice.

Service is a hot button for many foreigners that live in China but Ganges has mastered the art of responsive but not overbearing customer service. Ganges invests in its people and it shows. Customer service by itself is worthless without a great product and here again Ganges delivers. The curries are flat out amazing and nothing goes better with curry than naan.
Even the Bollywood dance performances are fun. I can’t recommend this restaurant enough.

It doesn't get much better than butter chicken and butter nan bread on a wintry day.

Service at The Village location is outstanding (although why they later turned on Indian music videos is beyond me).

Highly recommend!

While in UK I used to make the chicken tikka masala by picking up some ready made curry packs masalas and doing up some parts of the cooking myself, it was quite some time I had some real chicken tikka masala in Beijing.

I loved all the 3 curries we ordered here.
Chicken Tikka Masala,The Butter Chicken and Cottage cheese Spinach curry with Rice and Nan Breads .
The service was fine.

It reminded me of eating at Amaya in London, though prices there would be 3times at London of what we paid here for a great dinner.

Looks like this indeed would be by regular place for a once a week outing for tasty curries.

Ganges has never failed me. Now with 4 locations throughout the city I can rest assured one is never to far when my curry craving hits. Their menu is ridiculously extensive and chock-full of delicious plates from all over India. While an evening out at Ganges has never disappointed, its their lunch buffet I love and frequent the most. For just 42 RMB you get to choose from a plethora of tasty Indian treats that change up every day. The managers always seem to remember me so I know that as soon as I'm seated there's a hot basket of naan and a glass of lassi coming my way. Definitely recommend you check it out for a great value buffet and a wide selection of traditional Indian fare. Their Sanlitun branch at The Village also has a great outdoor terrace to soak in some rays this summer while you enjoy your meal.

Very nice resaturant, nice and quick service. I especially like the mutton dishes. Had many nice dinners here. Housewine (Chardonnay) is very nice and affordable. Good atmosphere (Indian music videos) and most important: many Indian guests - what I take as a good sign for typical Indian food. And the food is really great from my point of view. Thanks a lot for many nice evenings!

Overall: give the Ganges a chance, it's worth it!!!

I love Indian food and thanks to my Indian friends I've learned to appreciate real indian flavour.
However, this is not what you get at Ganges in the Place.
Sure the restaurant has a 42RMB all you can eat buffet, but i don't think it's really worth it.
I arrived at 1pm, but the food in the food warmers was already half gone and the one that was left (from the looks of it) was there for quite some time. The taste was nothing spectacular and if anything it was lacking the real indian spices in exchange for simple chinese chilly powder.
I like spicy food, but spice should be used not to cover a taste but to supplement it. anyway
There are much better Indian restaurants in the City and i think it's a shame people vote for Ganges just because of the price.
I guess i will have to pay more to get a decent Indian lunch.

While I have had good indian food in malaysia and around the world, this place was one of my best indian meal.

It was a great find. After a break at the Song, we were hunting for a quick grub and then go back again for the drinks.

Somebody recommended this place from the Song bar waitstaff.

1030 pm,fortunately the place was open. We quickly ordered whatever the manager recommended.

We went with whatever the manager recommended.Chicken tikka masala ,spinach curry and Nans and Biryani.

The curries were tasty and it was a long time I had tasty Indian food. The Biryani was yum.

The chinese waiters kept my glass refilling with draft beer.

I just loved the dinner.
Best thing was a combo great drinking place the song and good dinner place so close to each other.

Ganges is excellent Indian food and anyone who has any experience with Indian cuisine will immediately be able to appreciate their correct use of the multitude of spices that go into making each of the dishes.

If you are new to Indian food, their lunch buffet is the best way to go since it offers you the chance to experience a variety of their more popular dishes and discover what appeals to you most.

The staff are attentive and the restaurant is very clean, with Indian music videos playing on a large screen TV (at least at the location in Sanlitun).

I arrived for the lunch buffet (which is advertised through 14:30 daily) at 13:50 to discover many of the dishes empty or gone. Having said that, the manager offered (without being asked) to bring the featured tandoori chicken directly to my table after having the kitchen prepare some. The waitress also came over and asked if there was any dish I didn't get from the buffet that I wanted, offering likewise to have it prepared for me. What more can you ask for of a buffet when you come rather late?

The price of the buffet appears to have gone up since many of the reviews here were written, it is now at RMB48, still quite respectable, particularly given the food!

Being from Canada, when looking for good Chinese food in Vancouver, we often gravitated toward restaurants that were full of Chinese people eating. Interestingly enough, on all 3 of my visits to the Sanlitun location at Ganges, I found myself among a majority of Indian customers who clearly were enjoying their meal as much as I was.

My only suggestion would be that instead of dry naan bread brought to you in baskets to your table when having the buffet (of which I saw a lot get not eaten at other tables), they should just put garlic naan (arguably the most popular of the choices) directly on the buffet and let people help themselves. As an add-on to the buffet price, it just doesn't seem right.

My only criticism would be that while their mango lassi is fresh and delicious, it is frankly overpriced, particularly given the actual cost of the base ingredients and their wide availability here.

Lastly, their gulab jamon is exactly like I have had prepared by the mothers of my Indian friends back home in Vancouver! It may be a bit too sweet for some tastes, but if you know what it should taste like, this dessert caps off your Ganges experience perfectly!

Lido Branch banquet table, Ganges Indian Restaurant, Beijing, China

Banquet table, Lido Restaurant.

The popularity of our food and service has allowed us to expand from our first small restaurant in the university district of Haidian to a city-wide operation with branches in the Chaoyang CBD and the popular Lido area.

Our Haidian branch opened in December 2005, and quickly became known as a great place to satisfy a craving for curry. In December 2006 we opened a branch in the modern shopping mall 'The Place,' conveniently located in the Chaoyang CBD, and right in the middle of one of Beijing's main embassy and shopping areas – a short walk from the American, Indian, British, and New Zealand embassies, Ritan Park, and the Silk Market. In April 2007 we opened a branch in the Hairun International Buildings on Jiang Tai Lu, in the area close to the Lido Hotel and the Airport Expressway. This location is quickly becoming very popular due to its proximity to international schools, the headquarters of many large international companies, and the Lido Hotel.
