If you are looking to impress, and fine European dining is your destination, Maison Boulud should be a top consideration.
Excelling in quality, service, location and understated elegance, MB is certain to captivate even the most discerning of tastes. Home to one of Beijing’s top chefs, as well as one of Beijing’s top maitre d's, MB offers the finest of French cuisine.
For those who cannot decide, or who would like to stretch their fine dining dollar, MB currently offers two separate set 4-course dinners: Oysters, Sausage, Cotriade and Crepe for 308 rmb per person or Partridge, Scallops, Beef and Cheese Selection for 428 rmb per person.
One of the most enchanting features of MB is that each guest receives two separate, complimentary pieces of dessert at the conclusion of their meal. In addition, each guest is sent home with a beautifully tasting, and nicely wrapped muffin for the next day’s breakfast. These muffins are seriously divine and are reason alone to make MB your top choice.
Serving fine traditional French food with a modern edge, MB currently does not cater to the vegetarian or to the extremely budget conscious. However, for fine dining in Beijing, and a place to impress, it undeniably dominates the competition.
I went for lunch which I think is one of the best deals in Beijing. 2 Courses for 78rmb... Service was amazing and the food was one of the best meals I've had in the city.
We went back the week after for dinner with my wife, despite it was really busy everything was perfect, amazing fresh oyster, I order twice 6 Saint Vast, food tasty and beautiful as well, Australian beef tenderloin was succulent and so tender... And dessert were definitely excellent, ice cream made by them self and profiterole -- they add hot chocolate in front of us, so nice!! -- It was an amazing ending for our dinner. Coffee came with some chocolate truffle. They also give us some mignardise cake for complementary as well!
Staff speak good enough English, they are really good at what they are doing, one of the most good service I saw in Beijing, maybe the best. There a foreigner manager he helped us to pick a wine for our meal, I was afraid about a very expensive bottle but no, he understood what we wanted. We were totally happy about our "Chinon red wine". He gave us special attention. We really appreciate it.
we really enjoy this restaurant and we will definitely go there again.
Employees of the Canadian and Australian Embassies have been keeping a secret about one of their favorite dining establishments. Well, the cat is coming out of the bag! Owner and head chef Geoffrey Weckx brings a commitment to fresh ingredients, an elegant aesthetic, and a delicate hand to each dish he creates, resulting in stunning and exquisite presentations of contemporary European cuisine. Amazing food and a wine list that satisfies the most demanding wine connoisseurs, W Dine & Wine really fills an important void in DongZhiMen's stale dining scene. The service is friendly and unpretentious, and the lighting is exactly right--dark enough to have atmosphere, light enough to see your food and your dinner companions. Altogether superb.
To begin with, the restaurant itself is simply gorgeous. From the outside it almost looks like a greasy spoon. You've probably walked by this place a million times and never even given it a second glance. You've been missing out! I wasn't prepared for the modern, luxurious atmosphere that awaited me inside. A mix of rich colors and its signature purple convey a feeling of subtle confidence and sophistication. As other reviewers have mentioned, it's not an intimidating atmosphere. The other aspect that is striking is how the atmosphere is conducive to so many different types of occasions: romantic dates, high-level business meetings, diplomatic negotiations, and just families enjoying a night out on the town. I witnessed each of these scenarios here.
The service is simply impeccable. Friendly, attentive, and knolwedable, this is a professional waitstaff that could teach many restaurants in Beijing a thing or two about service. The staff really goes out of their way to make sure that you are having a pleasant time. Unlike some places I won't mention, they don't try to "upsell" you into dishes that you don't want. Even though it was my first time here, the staff treated me like a regular.
The menu is innovative without being weird. The dishes are recognizable and the food is simply divine. I thought I died and went to heaven when I was served REAL French bread, soft and warm, just like it should be. I didn't think it existed in Beijing. The dipping sauces really make the most seemingly ordinary of dishes more exotic. My table ordered a mix of entrees and the small pots of dishes. My beef tenderloin entree was fantastic. The small pots were each perfectly prepared and added a relaxed feeling to the table. I strongly recommend the mushroom pot! The seasonings are unique and you'll be hard pressed to find them elsewhere here. My mojito (or should I say mojito's) were perfectly mixed. For dessert, the chocolate molten cake and traditional creme brulee were about as authentic as it gets. The coffee was perfectly brewed.
The only downside? Clearly, a restaurant of this caliber ain't gonna come cheap. But you do truly get what you pay for. It's simply worth every kuai you pay. How many pseudo restaurants have you been to that say they offer European or Western cuisune (at Western prices) only to end up disappointed? Exactly. I can't wait to go again!
I realize I'm gushing, but I can't go on enough about W Dine & Wine. Discover one of the city's most charming and elegant establishments for yourself.
Until almost 7 years ago now, I lived in Paris for over 4 yrs, and I actually grew up near France, in Geneva Switzerland, so am very familiar with French Cuisine.
This place has everything: a cordial and friendly host, who always makes an effort to greet regulars, a cozy setting with that "shaba-daba-da", yellow headlights, laid back old world nostalgia that France cultivates and exports so well, and that can still be found in similar relaxed bistros in Paris and accross France today. I agree with another reader, this place is like being in France, not to mention the food...
You don't need a degree in Chemistry to eat here, all you need is an appreciation of fresh ingredients, well mastered, no-fuss complicated cooking, that reminds us all why France is the country of good cuisine; you feel an attention to detail in your plate; well mastered cooking techinques, comfort food in the best sense, with dishes not adventurous but perfectly executed (proof enough that "complicated" isn't worth the fuss), tasting great, and definitely keeping me, and many of my friends, coming back for more.
Great for a date too...honesty, simplicity and sensual pleasure around the table has always been, in my opinion, one of the best ways to make everyone relax, enjoy being together, and let that nagging and mundane thought of how early to set one's alarm clock the next morning slowly dissolve into irrelevance..
Stopped by here for a client lunch recently - read the great reviews below and decided to give it a try. Its very French, which means very small portions, interesting tastes/food combination's and a massive wine list- here it resembles a large coffee table book and must contain at least a few hundred choices. We went with the French sommeliers recommendation, a nice white wine. They offer two fix prixe menus for lunch, one comes in about 600 Rmb and the other about 180Rmb. There is also the daily chef's recommendation, which we chose.
First up was a broth with a small piece of duck and a vegetable creation- given it only required maybe 5 spoonfuls to complete it didn't test the palette too excessively and is probably designed to setup the next two courses, the first of which was crab in a cold green hazelnut soup. Following was a small 2 piece tuna steak with a small accompaniment of white vegetables. With dessert under the belt there was no need to undo any buttons and I was a bit concerned a trip to the noodle shop might be needed later.
Alas, being a bit bourgeois i'm not sure how great this meal was other than it was expensive, different and not too filling. One of my guests, who previously spent time living in Paris and is a big pan of french food, was pleasantly satisfied with the experience and its genuine frenchness. That's good enough for me- if your looking for a high class authentic french meal, give Le Pre Lenotre a try
