Beijing Attractions:
China is known to be the place of one of the oldest
civilizations, dating back to six millennia with a rich and vibrant history.
Its heritage surpasses that of many other nations and its cultural influence
has been tremendous with its impact still resounding in today's modern Chinese
society. Beijing is the capital of the People's Republic of China and is the
second largest city in the country, closely behind Shanghai. The tourist
attractions in Beijing city are the concrete evidence of its rich and vibrant
cultural history. Some of the most well-known of such historic places are
Badaling stretch of the Great Wall of China, the Tian'anmen and the Forbidden
City.
Badaling:
One of the most visited sections of the Great Wall of China is the Badaling
Great Wall, that is located almost 50 miles north of the Beijing City. This
part of the Great Wall is probably one of the most visited sites by tourists.
The Badaling was categorized as a World Heritage Site in 1988 by UNESCO. Then
again, in July 7, 2007 it was given the status of one of the newest 'Seven
Wonders of the World' bringing City to new levels of popularity. Badaling Great
Wall was the very first part to be opened for tourists. It is considered to be
one of the most iconic Beijing China attractions. The Badaling Great Wall near
the city of Beijing especially became quite famous, when, on February 24th
1972, US President Richard Nixon and his wife visited the Badaling.
Tian'anmen Square:
It is one of the most famous world renowned Beijing
attractions. The Tian'anmen square is located near the center of Beijing city.
The immensely spacious Tian'anmen Square has only two structures in its vast
expanse. One is the 125 ft high Monument to the People's Heroes and other one
is the Mausoleum of Mao Zedong. The city's Chang'an Avenue, that serves as the
host to the parades is situated between the Tian'anmen and the Square. It has
an area of about 122 acres than can hold approximately half a million people.
The inner bridges of the Tian'anmen Square give the square a harmonious feel
and are the main attractions of the Tian'anmen. You can visit the Tian'anmen
Tower, Monument to the People's Heroes, Great Hall of the People, Mao Zedong
Memorial Hall and also see the national flag raising ceremony at the Tian'anmen
Square when you visit Beijing .
Forbidden City:
The Forbidden City is one of the most preferred Beijing attractions for
tourists to travel to. It was the site for the Chinese Imperial Palace and was
the home to 24 emperors from the mid-Ming dynasty to the end of the Qing
dynasty. It is one of the most important monuments in the world and thus has
been classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is located in the middle of
Beijing city and at present houses the Palace Museum. It is the perfect place
for tourists and visitors to get a glimpse of the traditional palace
architecture, enjoy the sight of the treasures kept in the palace, and learn of
the legends and other facts and fiction about the imperial family and the
court.
Temple of Heaven:
The Temple of Heaven, or the Altar of Heaven is located in the
southeastern urban part of Beijing City and is one the most famous attractions
in Beijing, as far as ancient monuments are concerned. The Temple of Heaven was
the place, where emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties would offer sacrifices
to heaven and pray for good harvests. It occupies an area of 273 hectares and
is three times in size that of the Forbidden City. This famous tourist
attraction was constructed from 1406 to 1420, under the reign of the Yongle
Emperor.
